Late October of 1969 Indiana State University welcomed the Indiana Sigma chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE ISU). The True Gentlemen have annually held philanthropic events for their national charity, Riley’s Children Hospital. With the university's national recognition as being the number one school for community service in the nation, our brothers were inspired to plan a philanthropy event worthy of this recognition.

In 2013 Sigma Alpha Epsilon decided to change up the typical fundraiser and give back to the community in a whole new manner. Being the first student organization to hold a 5k run with paint and color presented a challenge for the brothers of Indiana Sigma, but the students of Indiana State show immense support for any cause, especially when the incentive was the colorful and fun atmosphere.  The brothers' work paid off, and the first 5K was a success.

The success of the first year's event led brothers to the plan the 2nd Annual SAE 5k Paint.Run.Fun.  The Run this past spring brought around 250 runners and raised $1,000 for the Humane Society of Terre Haute, a stepping stone for next year but a giant leap from last year. The run highlights Indiana State’s campus taking you from the East side to the West side, from the quad to the fountain and more importantly, from student to donor.

In planning for the second annual event, the brothers switched philanthropies and selected the Terre Haute Humane Society as the beneficiary, and set a goal in mind of raising enough money to help renovate a new building for the Humane Society.  The Terre Haute Humane Society hits close to the heart for a lot of the Terre Haute community, including the students, and desperately needs a new facility.

Charted in 1913, the Terre Haute Humane Society has worked towards the prevention of all unnecessary animal suffering and to teach kindness toward all living thing through an area-wide education program. Through generous donations they’ve received has allowed them to save the of lives of orphaned or abandoned companion animals, bring the healing touch of animals to the Terre Haute community, and serve as a community resource for pets when community members are displaced from their homes due to disasters.

If you have any questions, would like to give to the philanthropy, or learn more information about how you can help the annual event, please do not hesitate to contact SAE ISU and Brandon Blair at (217) 549-9248 or bblair5@sycamores.indstate.edu.
